ABRACADABRA
10 May 2020

—Release: 15 May 2020 (Stones Throw Records)

The press copy claims Jerry Paper´s album “Abracadabra” may remind one of Paul McCartney or Steely Dan. I say it reminds me of label-mate Mayer Hawthorne. Punchy, groovy, funny pop music. Super nice record.

BEDROOM EP
5 May 2020

—Release: digital 15 May 2020 / CD + Vinyl 19 June 2020 (Because / Caroline)

Belgian singer-songwriter Selah Sue´s upcoming “Bedroom EP” is beautiful, and I love it. A new album supposedly is also in the making.
Although it´s really a singer-songwriter thing, the music has quite some punch. The drum sounds on “You” kinda reminded me of The Pharcyde, you know, this smacking sort of MPC-sampled snare drum. Anyway, it´s a great little record, although I doubt that it was made in just one day, as the press copy claims. But who cares. Check it out. Please.

SCACCO MATTO
16 April 2020

—Release: 24 April 2020 (Warp Records / Rough Trade)

The press copy says the artist´s name is Lorenzo Senni, but I believe this is a collabo between Super Mario and Yoko Ono. I also believe they both took a fair amount of Acid, and broke into a state-of-the-art recording studio on a sunny Sunday morning.
I like this very weird record. A university degree in any kind of fine art, such as mathematics, may help to understand it (I can´t tell if I did).

STEP IN THE ARENA
5 April 2020

—Release: 15 January 1991 (Virgin)

To me, Gang Starr´s second studio album is an outstanding milestone of Rap music, and will eternally be one of my top five albums ever released.
To the people who assume listening to old school rap is a sign of not having evolved, I suggest listening to “Say Your Prayers”.

GOLDEN
27 January 2020

—I’m living my life like its golden (Jill Scott)

I’m holdin on to my freedom, can’t take it from me
I was born into it, it comes naturally
I’m strumming my own freedom in the god in me
Reverence in his glory, hope he proud of me

(From “Golden” by Jill Scott)

There is also a quite nice (if you like Reggae) remix of this song by Collen & Webb available on Soundcloud.

GOING GOING GOING
8 February 2017

—Release: 10 February 2017 (!K7 Records / Indigo)

Tosca´s new album “Going Going Going” reminds me a little bit of Booka Shade, dunno. Great stuff!
