THERE IS NO NEIL FRANCES
12 January 2022

—Release: 28 January 2022 (Nettwerk Music Group)

It is true, there is no Neil Frances. It is a duo, Jordan Feller and Marc Gilfry, and the two do a great job. I like this album, and if you (like me) like Mayer Hawthorne, Chromeo and the like, and like Funk and Electro and Soul, you might like it, too. (You will like it, trust me).

ARTIFACTS
7 January 2022

—Release: digital 28 January 2022 / CD + LP 4 March 2022 (Pompeii Records)

Beirut´s new album is some kind of a Best-of plus previously unreleased tracks (hence the name, I assume).
I truly admire the guys for their skills. Thing is for me, it just isn´t really my thing, music wise. But please, give it a try yourself, and if it is just for the listening experience.

CLOUD FOLK
11 November 2020

—Release: 20 November 2020 (Red Brick Chapel / Irascible)

Swiss guy Long Tall Jefferson´s really nice 3rd album “Cloud Folk” got me hooked right away. Modernist synth folk with a punch.
Check out the video of “Young Love” on YouTube for a first glimpse.

THE CAUSE OF DOUBT & A REASON TO HAVE FAITH
30 June 2020

—Release: 17 July 2020 (Sunday Best Recordings)

Lookman Adekunle Salami releases a new album, and although I didn’t listen to it so far, having the promo in my inbox reminded me of his song „Nazis on the Northern Line“. Which you should listen to, really. It’s just as good as it’s title…

BEAUTY
28 June 2020

—The only difference between the saint and the sinner is that every saint has a past, and every sinner has a future. (Oscar Wilde)

A strong indicator of physical beauty is “averageness”. When images of human faces are averaged together to form a composite image, they become progressively closer to the “ideal” image and are perceived as more attractive. This was first noticed in 1883, when Francis Galton overlaid photographic composite images of the faces of vegetarians and criminals to see if there was a typical facial appearance for each. When doing this, he noticed that the composite images were more attractive compared to any of the individual images. (From Wikipedia)

ROY AYERS JID002
17 June 2020

—Release: digital 19 June 2020 / CD + LP 31 July 2020 (Jazz Is Dead / Groove Attack)

This is a nice record. Although, what I liked most when listening to it, was being reminded of “Visit Venus: Music for Space Tourism Vol.1”, a super trippy german record from 1995. The liner notes of which give the (untrue) story, that teh album is based on the research of the producer´s fathers into music for space tourism, while it actually was a side project of two Hamburg-based producers of the early German Hiphop scene.
